Block Printing Workshops

(6 customer reviews)

Our hand carved wooden printing blocks come direct from artisans in India, where they have been used for printing fabrics for centuries. Hand printing is a slow & methodical process that is deeply absorbing and quiets the mind. All our blocks are ethically sourced, fair trade and sustainable.

Block Printing Beginners Workshop – 2 hours @ £25 per person

No previous experience required. During this session we will:
Discover more about this traditional form of wood carving and the companies that we work with.
Look at a variety of different printing blocks from different suppliers.
Learn the basics of this technique using small sized blocks, master getting a crisp & reproducible print on scrap fabric.
You will then design and print your own cotton tote bag.

Block Printing Advanced Workshop – 3 hours @ £40 per person

You must have completed our Taster or Beginners Workshop before moving onto our Advanced Workshop.
During this session we will:
Refresh your skills using scraps of fabric and use larger sized printing blocks (you are able to choose your designs)
You will learn about using tessellation to create repeat prints, how to create a mitred corner using borders and how to use a single small block to repeat print a design.
You will design and print a large cotton tea towel (50cm x 70cm)
You will then design & print your own cotton cushion cover (40cm x 40cm) – you will print both sides using different techniques.
We will also talk about other techniques you can use your blocks for – other than printing fabrics!

PLEASE NOTE: We offer the opportunity for delegates to be able to continue their creativity at home. With the ability to buy workshop appropriate tools, paints and materials at favourable prices (we have a card reader too).
